New York, 24 June 2015 (SPS) - The Ambassador,
Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations Mr. Sabri
BOUKADOUM said before The Special Committee on the Situation with regard
to the implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of
Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, that the colonization of
Western Sahara must be brought to an immediate and unconditional end in
accordance with the UN charter and resolution 1514, reiterating his
country firm position towards Sahrawi issue.
“The Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara in its resolution adopted on 28 April 2015”. The ambassador reminds the special committee.
The Ambassador has expressed Algeria serious concerns over the absence of any progress in resolving the case of Western Sahara, despite the efforts to ensure the implementation of resolution which still facing various obstacles.
Sabri BOUKADOUM underlined that the monitoring of the human rights in Western Sahara is the duty of the international community, drawing attention to the UN legal opinion in regard to the natural resources of Western Sahara people.
He also noted that the Council of Peace and Security of the African Union has reiterated in its decision on 27 March 2015 the AU principled position in support to the right to self-determination for the people of Western Sahara and urged the United Nations to spare no effort to hasten the process of decolonization.
