The National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario on Tuesday reiterated
thanks and appreciation to the African Union (AU) for its “principled,
clear and strict” position on Western Sahara issue, hailing the movement
of solidarity with the national cause.
In a statement issued at the end of its 11th ordinary session, the National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario said it is impossible to ignore the fact that Western Sahara is an African issue, and that the AU is a partner with the United Nations in the settlement efforts.
The communiqué, in this respect, requested the United Nations to deal with the African Union and its Special Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Joaquim Chissano.
It also welcomed the concrete steps adopted by the African Peace and Security Council, urging the African Union to continue its efforts and endeavors so to complete the decolonization of the last colony in the African continent.
Frente Polisario, on other hand, expressed recognition to world governments, parliaments, organizations, political parties, associations and personalities in solidarity with the Saharawi cause, notably of which the sisterly Republic of Algeria, led by H.E. President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. (SPS)
